CANA Deanery for Chaplaincies

The ministry of the CANA Chaplains Deanery, headed by The Rt. Rev. Derek Jones, is to endorse and support Anglican clergy (Deacons and Priests) for service in the U.S. military, federal and local government, hospital and hospice chaplaincies, and other volunteers serving their various communities. The Deanery also serves as the endorsing agency for the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA).

The Rev. Canon Michael Williams serves as Bishop Jones' Coordinator for Governmental Agency Chaplaincies. This means Canon Williams - together with the Coordinator for Vocational and Volunteer Chaplaincies - is responsible for designing, maintaining and administering the Deanery's processes for the screening, application, education/training and preparation, and pastoral care of all clergy and clergy-in-training who aspire to and who serve as federal agency (military, Coast Guard, Veterans Administration, Bureau of Prisons, C.A.P.) and state militia chaplains. Currently there are over 35 such Anglican Priest-Chaplains serving around the world, and 18 individuals in the process of becoming endorsed to serve in these chaplaincies.

Canon Williams' Coordinator responsibilities include:

 - Intial Point of Contact for all Governmental Chaplaincy inquiries for CANA and ACNA

 - Conduct Pre-Application Screening Interviews

 - Assemble and Forward Pre-Application Packages to Bishop Jones

 - Coordinate Application Processes

 - Develop and Administer Anglicanism Tutorial [18 two-week sessions]

 - Mentor Individual Applicants and new Clergy-Chaplains

 - Collect and Brief Quarterly Chaplain Reports to the Bishop

 - Coordinate Pastoral Care to Chaplains and their Families

 - Develop and Manage Chaplain Continuing Education Opportunities

 - Coordinate Deanery Business via Weekly Teleconference Staff Meetings

 - Provide for Day to Day Administrationn of the Deanery for Chaplaincies

 - Assist with Deanery Web Page Maintenance: AnglicanChaplains.org
